Here
are a few examples of how your membership donation will be
put to use:
Patient
Sunshine and Comfort Fund:
This fund
helps Hospice staff and volunteers brighten a patient’s spirits by
surprising him or her with a special gift for a holiday, birthday or
just because.
Bereavement
Support: Loved ones
left behind need extra support, especially if they are very young or
all alone. Friends’ dollars purchase bereavement materials, teddy
bears and anything else to help make this transition as easy as
possible for family members.
Camp Rainbow
of Hope:
A residential
camp for children ages 7 to 12 who have experienced the loss of a
loved one. Children can acknowledge their loss, develop coping
skills and celebrate their life and their loved one’s life in a
support network of peers and professional volunteers. This three-day
camp received the National Legacy Award for Excellence and
Innovation.
Volunteer
Maintenance Fund:
Hospice
patients and their families receive a tremendous amount of emotional
support and assistance from Hospice volunteers. The Friends
recognize their value and make every effort to ensure that
volunteers receive recognition for their dedication. Friends also
provides funds for volunteer recruitment and training.
Public
Awareness:
Friends of
Oswego County Hospice educates the community about Hospice services
so that if someone is facing a life-threatening illness, family
members will know who to turn to. Friends offer and educational
Hospice DVD and other material which are available to medical
offices, nursing homes and the general public.
Hospice
Memory Gardens:
Flowers can
brighten a patient’s day. These lovely gardens are full of bright
fragrant blossoms during the summer and staff and volunteers are
encouraged to pick them and bring them to patients’ homes.
